Circuit breaker lockouts are used to prevent the accidental or intentional opening of certain electrical circuits. Before maintenance work is carried out, the power supply to machinery and equipment powered by electricity must be disconnected. Circuit breakers connected to the energy sources which supply their power shall be in the closed condition and the closed circuit breakers shall be secured in the disconnected condition by means of a LOTO circuit breaker lockout or LOTO circuit breaker lockout of the appropriate size.
